Wild woman

This is what is known in our house as 'wild woman hair'! We are having one of those days and loving every minute of it! Everyone needs a wild haired day once in awhile.

I have a confession . . .

I have a confession to make, and seeing as it is still early in the new year I assume it is not too late to make a resolution! I started this awful habit three and a half years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, and I have got to kick it.

It happened late one night by the light of the stars and the moon. I awoke with a start not to false labor, not to the gentle kicks of my little baby inside me, but to the most dramatic hunger pangs I have ever felt in my life. I had to get up and eat or I was going to starve to death! That night I got up and ate my favorite snack, graham crackers and milk, setting a precedent for many nights to come.

To this day I struggle with eating under the cover of darkness, but my main problem at this point is that my kids usually do not sleep through the night. So, I am almost always up during the witching hours of sleepiness, leaving me with the feeling of an empty stomach after I have checked on my little ones. As a result, I almost always end up snacking before returning to the comforts of my bed.

I have no idea how I am going to reverse this habit, and it is definitely a hinderance to losing weight! But maybe once my kiddos sleep thru the night that will solve my problems!

The Luxury of a Hot Shower

About a year ago we mysteriously lost most of the hot water to our shower. It would stay piping hot the first five minutes, and the rest of the time you were left with unsatisfying lukewarm water.

Being a momma of two toddlers I have come to relish my time under the hot aqua rain as necessary to my day being joyfully whole. Imagine my chagrin when the hot water seemed to go on a strike with no end in sight! I could not stand the cooler temperature for long, and would rush to get as much done as I possibly could in the precious moments of warmth given to me. I think I could have given military personnel a run for their money when it came to who could take the most efficient shower.

Fate, however, gave me an out of sorts when one day I discovered that if I ran the washing machine while the shower ran somehow the shower miraculously stayed hot! Over the next several months I coordinated when I would wash clothes with the times I wanted a hot shower, and yes there were times when I ran an empty washer just for the luxury of getting the warm water I would otherwise be without. I admit it!

It was strange, though. At about the same time the hot water in our house ebbed away, my husband had been updating some water lines to bedrooms we are renovating. Despite that fact, he could never find a connection between the two events. Until last weekend.

Adam's dad had come by to help him figure out some details with our construction zones, when Adam just happened to grab the water lines in our gutted master suite. He was very surprised to find them almost hot to the touch, especially considering they are never used! I don't know the particulars, but something about the water cycling through the unused water lines continuously, had caused us for the whole past year to lose our hot water to the rest of the house.

Needless to say, Adam installed a couple of valves that turned off the water where it is not yet needed, and we once again have hot water in our shower - for like an hour if we want it!

I feel like a queen now being able to take my sweet time, but you know there is nothing like having something taken away to make you appreciate it all the more.
